As a lifelong New Jerseyan, I’ve always been proud to call the Garden State home. But like many older residents living on a fixed income, I’ve worried about whether I could afford to stay here.

Property taxes are one of the biggest expenses we face. For years, they seemed to rise faster than everything else – groceries, utilities, even healthcare. Programs like ANCHOR, Senior Freeze, and especially Stay NJ have made a real difference for people like me.

The relief I receive isn’t a luxury – it’s stability. It meant I didn’t have to dip into savings meant for medical expenses or home repairs. It meant peace of mind.

My friends and I want to age in place, near our families, friends, and communities. Property tax relief programs are helping make that possible. As the state discusses its budget priorities, I hope leaders remember how meaningful this support has been for older homeowners like me.
