At NJHealth Hospice and Palliative Care, extraordinary care happens every day. While our team members rarely seek recognition, there are moments when their compassion shines so brightly that families feel compelled to share their gratitude. This month, we are proud to celebrate our October WOW Winners—Julie Hertz, RN/case manager and Denise Davis, spiritual care coordinator, whose dedication to patient-centered care touched the heart of one local family.
Davis, of Vineland, has been with NJ Health for five and a half years. In her position, she supports the spiritual need of patients and families and is dedicated to providing this support so needed and welcomed throughout the hospice journey.
Hertz, of Magnolia, has worked in hospice for 29 years and joined the NJHealth team almost two years ago. She says that caring for patients and their families at the end of life is the most rewarding nursing experience.

Recently, NJHealth received a heartfelt note from the daughter of a patient. In her message, she expressed sincere appreciation for the care her mother received from Hertz, Davis, and the entire NJHealth team. She described everyone involved in her mother’s care as caring, compassionate, and deeply committed to their life’s calling.
Stories like this serve as a powerful reminder of why our work matters. For families facing one of life’s most difficult journeys, it is often the small acts of kindness that make the biggest difference. A reassuring conversation, a gentle touch, a listening ear, or simply being present can bring comfort and peace during challenging times. These moments are at the heart of hospice care and reflect the values that guide our team every day.
