The recreation commission will host its annual Harrison Township Day event at Ella Harris Park on Saturday, June 6, from 4 to 9 p.m.

Recreation coordinator Sharon Chew said the free event – except for vendor purchases – is expected to draw about 3,000 people.

“Everyone is really excited for it to be back,” she said. “It’s back in the park, and many people stay for the fireworks. They enjoy the festivities and there’s something for everyone.”

Activities on Harrison Township Day will include a dunk tank, with dunkees who are local teachers and township officials. The event will have a scannable QR code and a donation jar where attendees can donate funds to Your Place at the Table (YPATT) food pantry.

Local band Bar None will perform throughout the day and the township fire district will run a beer garden for adults. Kids will meet Blaze the dog, climb aboard a fire truck and go through a smokehouse. The township police will offer K-9 demonstrations along with other Gloucester County departments. There will also be tractor and pony rides and a petting zoo.

The day will end with a fireworks display at 9 p.m.

One of the goals of the event is to provide an affordable experience for residents. Helping to meet that goal will be sponsors who include Inspira Health and Brian Horn of Stag’s Leap Ranch, as well as ReMax, which will provide a hot-air balloon for guests to step into for photos.

“We get a lot of support from local organizations,” Chew explained. “Without their support, we would not be able to do it. It’s especially great because there are many families out there that are living paycheck to paycheck. I think it’s going to be a good event this year.”
