The Camden County Department of Public Works is ensuring the county’s 1,200 lane miles of road are safe and passable for motorists.

Southern New Jesey is expected to receive anywhere from 12 to 18 inches of snow. Additionally, Gov. Mikie Sherrill declared New Jersey a State of Emergency, which went into effect at noon today.

“Based on current forecasts and the severity of the approaching system, this storm has the potential to be historic,” said Commissioner Al Dyer, liaison to the Department of Public Works. “It is crucial that everyone stay off the roads for the duration of this storm unless travel is absolutely essential. Forecasted wind speeds are expected to create blizzard conditions that will be extremely dangerous.”

Snow is anticipated to fall at a rate of two inches per hour, and wind speeds from 25 to 45 miles per hour (mph) will likely create blizzard conditions. Snow will continue to fall through Sunday night into Monday afternoon. Long-term freezing temperatures throughout the week will ensure snow and ice remain on untreated surfaces for several days.

The Department of Public Works complex in Lindenwold holds over 100 pieces of snow removing equipment that are available to keep county roadways passable. When the weather becomes treacherous, personnel will be dispatched to 12 winter maintenance districts throughout Camden County to salt and plow the county’s 1,200 lane miles of roadways. The county’s response plan calls for crews to be dispatched only to the zones where they are needed.

In the event the weather causes isolated power outages, please immediately call your utility company so they can identify the location and coordinate crews to restore your power. Residents are advised to be cognizant of any power failures.

Below are numbers and contact info for the power providers in Camden County:

Please only use 9-1-1 for emergencies. If you see a problem on a county road, please call our 24-hour hotline at (856) 566-2980 to report it to the Camden County Department of Public Works.
