As the Winslow Township Committee gathered this month, members recognized four national awareness days through proclamation: Mothers’ Grief, ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), Mental Health and Physical Fitness and Sports.
Mothers’ Grief recognizes motherhood as one of the most profound and sacred roles a woman can hold. The bond between a mother and her child begins long before birth and continues throughout her lifetime. When a child dies – whether during pregnancy, infancy, childhood or adulthood – a mother carries an immeasurable grief that endures for a lifetime.
ALS is a progressive neuro-degenerative disease that weakens muscles and impacts physical function. With recognition, the Winslow Township Board of Health encourages donations to nonprofits that research a cure, advocate for and empower those affected.
National Mental Health Month promotes mental well-being and encourages people to seek help and live full lives. Mayor Marie Lawrence and the committee encourage both prevention and treatment of mental-health problems and authorizes the appropriate officials to execute the same.
The board of health encourages residents of all ages and body types to be physically active as they recognize National Physical Fitness and Sports Month.
In other news, the committee unanimously adopted an ordinance to reduce the speed limit on New Brooklyn-Erial Road (County Road 706) at a meeting on May 12. Traffic engineer Environmental Resolutions Inc. (ERI) determined the speed limit of 50 miles per hour on the road at three points is “somewhat fast” and recommended it be reduced.
New Brooklyn-Erial Road between Eden Hollow Lane and Lehigh Manor Drive will see speed reduced to 35 mph in both directions, New Brooklyn-Erial Road between Lehigh Manor Drive and Sicklerville Road (County Road 705) will be reduced to 40 mph in both directions and New Brooklyn-Erial Road between Eden Hollow Lane Williamstown-New Freedom Road will reduce to 40 mph in both directions.
