“It takes a fair amount of work to pull the evening off, but it’s a good time had by all,” said comedy night committee co-chair Doug Sell, who’s been in that role with Rotary member Amy Webb for a few years.

The event will be “bring your own food”; beer and seltzers will be available for purchase from King’s Road Brewing Company.

This year’s headliner will be Taylor Mason, with special guests Ashley Austin Morris and Chris Coccia. Mason combines comedy, ventriloquism and music to provide appropriate entertainment for a variety of events. Morris is an actor, comedian and writer who can be seen regularly at clubs and theaters across the country. Coccia’s comedy is described as a mix of hilarious material and in-the-moment engagement.

“The fellowship among friends to relax and enjoy a bunch of good laughs is a special experience, particularly in this time in our history when there is so much that is very serious,” Sell explained.

The club’s fall show raised $10,000 for the Community House. This year, a portion of proceeds will support the Moorestown Theater Company. Having events like comedy night, Sell noted, is a way to bring people together who are interested in making the local and international community a better place for everyone.

“The Moorestown Theater Company provides an opportunity for young, older and developmentally challenged people to work together to produce meaningful entertainment and develop appreciation for working together towards a goal,” he added.

“The charities supported by Moorestown Rotary charities all provide valuable services to underserved people in need.”

The Rotary Club of Moorestown focuses its time, energy and efforts on service projects internationally and locally, encompassing things like water and sanitation; basic education and literacy; food and clothing drives; and economic and community development.

The mission of Rotary International, a global service organization, is to provide service to others and advance world understanding, goodwill and peace through its business, professional and community leaders. Rotary, Sell pointed out, is first and foremost a service organization, service done both locally and globally.

“It’s a very large organization made up of a lot of very individual, local groups that have their own way of defining what service is, and doing a lot of good around the world,” he observed. “Local (Rotary) clubs have an opportunity to participate in global service projects that are facilitated by Rotary International, giving us an opportunity to partner with other Rotary clubs from around the world to fund projects all over.”
