Bells Elementary School unveiled its new “little library” on Sept. 5, an addition made possible by a collaboration with the Margaret E. Heggan Library.

The little library – the first installed in a township school – is located near the front of Bells’ parking lot. It’s free and open to all township residents, according to principal Dr. Shaun Giberson and Heggan library director Sheila Mikkelson.

“This is exactly what our school’s motto of ‘Learn, Grow, Shine’ is all about,” Giberson said. “By working together with the Heggan library and our community members, we are bringing everyone together to support our students and provide them with the resources they need to succeed.”

The unveiling highlighted the shared goal of both the school district and the library, to put books directly into the hands of children and promote higher literacy rates for the youngest students. The initiative was described as a vital step in creating a love for reading and learning beyond the classroom.

Other guests at the library opening included Superintendent Eric Hibbs and Mayor Anthony Dellapia. The school’s mascot, Bailey the Bear, was also on hand to cut a ceremonial red ribbon.
