“Legally Blonde: The Musical” is coming to the Lindenwold Moose Lodge from June 4 through June 8, brought to life by the GHVS Players. The production has a teen cast and creative team for a show with a powerful message of self-discovery.
Eastern High School’s Idleanna Jones stars as Elle Woods, the iconic sorority girl-turned-law student whose charm, wit, and determination redefine what it means to be underestimated.
“Playing Elle Woods has been the most memorable and incredible journey of self-discovery,” Jones said. “I love how she embraces what she believes in, stays positive, and reaches for her goals. I relate to her determination and drive, even when facing obstacles. And rehearsing with this cast—who all share the same passion—has felt like being part of a family.”
The cast’s sense of community is echoed by Ella Gabbay, who brings heart and humor to her role as Paulette Bonafonté, Elle’s lovable confidante.
“Paulette is outgoing, unapologetic, and passionate,” said Gabbay. “She learns to embrace her true self and recognize her inner beauty. Her journey of self-worth has helped me reflect on my own. Being a Voorhees resident and part of this theater community means everything to me—it’s where my love for performing began.”
At the helm is show and vocal director Gabrielle Horvitz, whose guidance has helped the cast balance the show’s humor with emotional depth.
“The most rewarding part has been watching this cast embrace the heart of ‘Legally Blonde’,” Horvitz said. “With Elle, we focused on making her optimism sincere and grounded. For Paulette, we brought out her warmth and vulnerability through character-driven vocal coaching. This cast has grown so much, and their support for each other shines both on and off the stage.”
Of course, “Legally Blonde” wouldn’t be complete without its iconic numbers—and choreographer Jennifer Morris Grasso has delivered a visual feast of fast-paced movement and bold style.
“The upbeat, high-energy music instantly inspired a fun, sassy, cheerleader-meets-hip-hop vibe,” Grasso said. “I had so much fun creating fast-paced choreography full of bold transitions, funky movement, and attitude. I hope the audience feels the energy from the first number and leaves the theater smiling and dancing!”
Two of Grasso’s favorite pieces to choreograph were the playful “Positive” and the complex showstopper “What You Want.”
“‘Positive’ has such a spicy, fun vibe that the Delta Nu girls totally ate up,” she said. “‘What You Want’ is an eight-minute powerhouse of dance, props, scenes, and even a male hip-hop section. It’s been a blast, and the cast has been crushing it.”
Behind the scenes, production assistant and costumer Jennifer Gaffney has helped shape the show’s iconic look, crafting a wardrobe that reflects each character’s evolution—especially Elle’s.
“Elle starts out in playful, pink pieces and moves into more structured, serious looks at Harvard,” explained Gaffney. “But by the end, she realizes she doesn’t have to change who she is to succeed—and that’s when you’ll see her in bold, empowering costumes. There’s also a fun surprise in Paulette’s wardrobe that ties into one of her loves.”
As both a producer and a proud mom, Gaffney shared how meaningful it’s been to watch the cast grow.
“They’ve poured their hearts into every scene, and the fun they’re having is contagious,” she said. “This isn’t just a musical—it’s a celebration of confidence, perseverance, and staying true to yourself.
“It’s a perfect show for the times we’re living in. “It brings joy, energy, and an uplifting message that reminds us we’re all stronger than we think.”
