The Monroe Township school board recognized the accomplishments of Williamstown High School’s indoor percussion ensemble and color guard – as well as the girls’ volleyball team – during its meeting on May 21.
The percussion team was recognized for winning the Tournament Indoor Association’s (TIA) Atlantic Coast championship in Wildwood, where they competed against other state bands from April 30 to May 3. The color guard also had a good day, finishing seventh in its respective competition.
“Our indoor percussion ensemble took first place at the TIA championship out of 10 groups,” Superintendent Brian McBride said. “They performed in two championship rounds and through an undefeated season, took first place at every competition. Regarding our indoor color guard, they took seventh place in the TIA championship out of 19 groups. They performed at three championship rounds and they competed in a highly competitive division.”
The girls’ volleyball team was on hand at the meeting, just months out of its 2025 fall season. The team finished its season with a 31-1 record, a ranking of second overall in the state from nj.com, according to McBride. Its other accomplishments included securing first place at the Williamstown invitational, first place in the Northern Valley invitational, first place in the Tri-County Royal Conference and first place in the Tri-County Tournament.
The team was also named the Tri-County Conference team of the year.
“This team has set a high standard for the entire school district,” McBride noted. “We love it. Thank you for what you do. There were some awesome games that we’ve seen. It was an experience, and we look forward to what next year brings as well.”
The board also recognized two other student groups who were unable to attend the meeting: the high school’s flag football team – which captured the first state championship in program history – and Williamstown Middle School’s dance team, which took part in the Beyond the Stars dance convention in Lawrence Township.
The board hopes to formally recognize the absentees at its next meeting on Thursday, June 25, at 7 p.m.

Williamstown High School’s indoor percussion ensemble and color guard were one of two groups honored by the school board at its May 21 meeting.
