The Monroe Township Parks and Recreation Commission will host its annual musical festival and town appreciation day on Saturday, June 6, from 4 to 10 p.m. at Owens Park.
The event – with a rain date of June 7 – will feature two bands. On the main stage will be local favorite and rocker Goodman Fiske; on the second, country music will be heard from Saltwater Country.
According to recreation chairwoman Donna Park, the event is expected to be the township’s largest this year, with an anticipated crowd of about 10,000, based on past attendance.
“I’ve been a part of parks and recreation since 2009,” Park said. “We started this on Main Street, and it’s gotten so big that we moved it to Owens Park. This year, we also extended the event by an hour to give people more time to do things and provide extra sales for the craft vendors. The band (Goodman Fiske) draws huge crowds.”
The festival will feature a variety of attractions for people of all ages. Kids will find rides, while adults can go through the Williamstown Fire Department’s beer and wine garden. Several craft vendors and local organizations will set up tables.
“They (the fire department) do a fabulous job with the event,” noted parks and recreation supervisor Tiffany Carney. “We’re so happy everyone can do something like this every year. We’re a big town with a small-town feel.”
The event will close with a bang: a fireworks display. Several businesses and groups are sponsoring and assisting. White Horse RV will provide trailers for the bands to use between sets. Texas Roadhouse restaurant will fund those bands and help volunteers with food and drinks.
Other sponsors include the MUA, Capri Tans and the UPS store. Free shuttles will be provided at Williamstown Middle School.
The event is a culmination of months of planning and preparation, according to Park.
“We have our meetings every month where we discuss what we’re doing for this,” she explained. “In the month before the event, I’m on the phone every day with my co-chair. It’s always so nice seeing people come out and see everything going on.
“It’s a (financially) reasonable day to come out.”
