As part of the nationwide commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, local churches participating in the Faith 250 Initiative will gather to plant a Unity Fruit Tree at the Monroe Township Community Garden.
The planting ceremony will take place on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at the Monroe Township Community Garden located at the Monroe Township Library.
The project is sponsored by the Williamstown Ministerium and is intended to symbolize unity, hope, growth, and the shared values that bring people together across congregations and throughout the community.
The Unity Fruit Tree is one of several local Faith 250 initiatives designed to encourage reflection on the ideals expressed in the Declaration of Independence while fostering meaningful community engagement. By planting a fruit-bearing tree, participating churches hope to leave a lasting symbol of cooperation and service that will benefit future generations.
“Trees remind us that meaningful growth takes time,” said members of the Williamstown Ministerium. “Just as a tree develops strong roots and bears fruit for others, we hope this project reflects our shared commitment to cultivating unity, faith, and service within our community.”
Members of local congregations and the broader community are invited to attend and participate in the planting ceremony. The event will provide an opportunity for fellowship, reflection, and celebration on Flag Day while contributing to a community space that serves residents of all ages.
The Monroe Township Community Garden, located adjacent to the Monroe Township Library, was selected as the site because it serves as a gathering place where individuals and families come together to learn, grow, and share in the benefits of gardening and community stewardship.
The Faith 250 Initiative seeks to create respectful and meaningful conversations around freedom, equality, justice, and civic responsibility while exploring how faith communities can contribute to the common good.
