The Washington Township Public Schools music department, led by the Washington Township High School marching band and color guard, presented a “Salute to Our Veterans” program on Sunday, Oct. 26 at Tom Brown Field.

The evening started with a dinner donated and sponsored by Mission BBQ, followed by a full ceremony under the stadium lights. Musical performances were provided by the school marching band, ensemble (which has been selected to play at the National Music Teachers’ Convention later this winter), and the fourth/fifth-grade chorus from Whitman Elementary School.

The evening was the vision of Director of Bands Mr. Calvin Spencer, who put together a team led by colleague Colleen Black to make the goal of celebrating and honoring veterans come to life.

“Every veteran in attendance felt honored and treasured, as they should be, as American heroes,” high-school Executive Principal Ray Anderson said. “We would not have anything that we have today without all of the veterans who made so many sacrifices for our country.”
