Woman’s Club Hosts Two Millville High Seniors

With members dressed in red and tables decked out in hearts and chocolates, the Millville Woman’s Club (MWC) enjoyed Valentines Day treats during the February meeting. Pam McNamee, president, welcomed all and thanked Joann Schmidt, Mary Miskelly, and Joan Fauver for the decor and luncheon.

Donna Pio of the Education Committee introduced two Millville High School (MHS) seniors to share with members some of their studies, interests, activities and goals. Sophia Pasparage is a member of the National Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Student Council, Leaders Club, Key Club and is Class Vice President. She has received Academic and Marching Band Varsity Letters. Sophia is the clarinet section leader in the MHS marching band, is in the Spring Musical, Madrigals and All County Honors Band. She has also played with the MHS Jazz Band and SJBODA Honors Symphonic Band. Sophia has participated in Mock Trial and Model Congress and is also on the yearbook staff, currently as the Editor-in-Chief. She plans to attend Rowan University and pursue as a secondary education teacher.

Jaylen Rhett a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club and Leaders Club.  She was Junior Class Secretary and is now Senior Class Treasurer. She has received Academic Letters as well as Varsity Letters in winter and spring Track and Field. Jaylen is active in the community, volunteering with Boys & Girls Tri-City Club 9, Boys & Girls Boxing, basketball concession stands, AVID food drive, Haunted Hall, 50/50 Money Tickets, Chick-fil-A Senior Night, Pink Out Pom Pom Sell, and mentoring young children in baking, makeup and drawing. Jaylen plans to attend college and pursue a career in nursing, hoping to become a travel nurse. 

Club members expressed their appreciation of the girls’ accomplishments and wished them well as they pursue their goals.  

Dave McCarthy and Linda Green

Linda, Green, programs chair, introduced Dave McCarthy from the Millville Air Field Museum. He gave a presentation regarding Millville Airport and how this local airport, home of the Millville Flying Club, was transformed into America’s First Defense Airport, playing a vital role in the protection of our eastern shores during World War II. He noted that thousands of pilots were trained at the Millville Air Field. The Air Field also served as a gunnery school for fighter pilots.  MWC members were encouraged to visit the museum to expand their knowledge and appreciation of all took place at Millville Air Field. Linda presented McCarthy with a $100 check from MWC for the Millville Air Field Museum.
