Winslow Baptist Church will host its second Back-to-School Bash and provide other outreach programs throughout the year to help the community.
The Back-to-School Bash was created by the church’s Community Events Ministry, which is led by Community Events Coordinator, Shayla Campbell.
“It’s just a way for us to get the kids of Winslow Township the items that they need to be prepared to go back to school in the new year,” Campbell said.
In addition to providing school supplies, the event will offer food, music, games, and raffle prizes.
The upcoming Back-to-School Bash will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 8.
Trunk-or-Treat is another event the church hosts as a safe alternative for children in the community to collect candy instead of going to the homes of strangers.
“We have a lot of community vendors that also come out to support our programs. Fulton Bank is one of them, and Raising Cane’s,” Campbell said. “We also have the mayor, who comes to a lot of our events and sets up.”
Winslow Baptist Church is currently expanding its outreach and furthering its efforts to support those in need by starting a soup kitchen.
“We are in the process of building a kitchen, having an outreach for the community,” she explained. “So that is to come. We’re actually doing some renovations and stuff in the church, and that is on the list for us.”
The church also has a teen ministry that is currently planning events for youth to engage with the community.
“We’re actually looking to do some work at one of the Camden soup kitchens,” she said. “I’ve been in contact with them, and we’re just waiting for a time where my assistant, the pastor and his wife, and I can go out there and do some work, and then report back to the church.”
“Then we’ll get the volunteers to come out, probably once a month, to start,” Campbell continued.
Every year, the church gives away turkeys for Thanksgiving. The church has also organized food drives, with canned goods donated by church members and distributed to local soup kitchens. Church members also participate in clothing drives by donating items or providing funding.
Winslow Baptist Church is actively looking for volunteers to assist with community events. Anyone interested in volunteering can contact the church by email at winslowbaptistchurch@gmail.com or by calling 856-629-7007.
“Winslow Baptist Church is a community-based church, so the doors are always open to anyone who wants to come,” she said. “This is more than just a church. We are a family.”
