More than a 1,000 Camden County seniors gathered at The Forum Wedding & Catering Hall in Gloucester Township on Oct. 8 for the senior health fair and annual flu shot program launch.

The event is designed to connect older residents with vital health resources, community services and preventive care. Hosted by the county commissioners – along with the county health department and the Division of Senior Services – the launch kicked off the county’s seasonal flu shot program while highlighting local wellness initiatives for seniors.

“The senior health fair gives our senior residents the opportunity to connect with resources they need, as well as receive their annual flu shot at no cost to them,” said Commissioner Virginia Betteridge, liaison to the county Department of Health and Human Services.

“The launch of our flu shot program is traditionally coordinated with the senior health fair because residents age 65 and older are among the high-priority groups for annual shots.”

The health fair included live music, giveaways, door prizes and health-centered activities. Dozens of local organizations were on hand to provide information about nutrition, fitness, home safety, mental-health resources and aging-in-place support.

In addition to flu vaccinations, the fair included free health screenings, wellness consultations and opportunities for seniors to speak directly with health-care providers and county staff about available programs. Each attendee also received a complimentary boxed lunch.

County officials emphasized that flu shots are available at no out-of-pocket cost. The commissioners have scheduled eight site locations for the 2025 vaccinations.

Commissioner Betteridge addressed the fair’s longevity and impact, noting that the county’s partnership with local agencies and health professionals remains vital to its success.

“We want every senior in Camden County to know that help, support and care are within reach,” she noted. “Events like this are about more than just flu shots, they’re about building community and ensuring our seniors live healthy, fulfilling lives.”
