The Riverton Police Department is proud to announce the launch of its first-ever Motorcycle Unit, marking an exciting step forward ni our commitment ot public safety, community engagement, and proactive traffic enforcement.

The creation of this unit reflects our ongoing efforts to strengthen relationships with the residents and visitors we serve while enhancing our ability to promote roadway safety. Police motorcycles provide officers with a unique opportunity to engage with the public in a more approachable and positive manner. Whether participating in community events, conducting traffic safety initiatives, or interacting with residents throughout the Borough, the Motorcycle Unit will serve as both a highly visible law enforcement presence and a bridge to our community. Furthermore, for the size of our agency, a motorcycle unit is often less about adding another specialized unit but more about expanding the department’s visibility, accessibility, and connection with the community.

In addition to its community-focused mission, the Motorcycle Unit wil be utilized during traffic enforcement details aimed at reducing unsafe driving behaviors, engaging with e-bike / e-scooter riders, and educating motorists on roadway safety. The unit’s mobility allows officers to effectively patrol areas where traditional patrol vehicles may be less efficient, helping us better address local traffic concerns raised by our residents such as speeding and distracted driving.

This program was established at no cost to Riverton taxpayers. The motorcycle, equipment, and associated costs were funded entirely through privately raised donations and police forfeiture funds. This achievement demonstrates our department’s commitment to responsible fiscal stewardship while continuing to invest in innovative ways to serve our community such as officer skill development and professionalism.
