The John Hoey trio is known for its interpretations of classic American standards.
The Harrison Township Historical Society presented its Jazz in June event on June 2, featuring a performance from the John Hoey Trio, who performed a series of songs from The Great American Songbook.
“Sunday’s concert is John’s second appearance at the Academy,” said James Turk, a society trustee and program host, before the evemt. “His program last June was wonderful, and we are looking forward to his return performance.”
Hoey is an entertainer and triple-threat performer on trumpet, guitar and voice. He has been on the jazz scene since an early age and has established himself as one of the youngest interpreters of the songbook. Through his studies at Rowan University, he has had enjoyed the opportunity to perform with artists like Rufus Reid and the John Pizzarelli Trio.
Hoey was joined by Ben Kornak on drums and Charles Ford on bass. Sunday’s concert continued the historical society’s partnership with Rowan University’s College of Performing Arts that showcases outstanding young musicians from the college.
“These performing opportunities are a valuable experience for the musicians and presenters,” noted Dr. Richard Dammers, dean of the college.
