The Mount Laurel Animal Hospital will be participating in this year’s Exotic365 Conference in Philadelphia, an event that’s considered a family reunion for exotic animal lovers.

“It’s a really fun experience to not only learn more, (but) there’s lectures by professionals in the field from around the world,” said avian and exotics veterinarian Rebecca Revay of the conference. “There’s also a lot of networking opportunities to meet other professionals in the field, technicians, people that work with exclusive exotics… It’s a big meet-up and it’s a nice collaboration between two of my professional worlds.”

The conference was launched in 2023 by the Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians and the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians to create a high-energy, collaborative conference experience built exclusively for the exotic animal veterinary community. Revay also has a special connection with the event, as she’s been on the board of directors for the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians for two years now as director-at-large, membership outreach committee chair.

The Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians, established in 2000, is dedicated to advancing the care of exotic companion mammals through peer-reviewed research and continuing education. Among its values include education and knowledge sharing and ethics and integrity, upholding the highest ethical standards in all aspects of veterinary practice, including patient care, research and professional conduct.Since its founding, it has grown to become known around the world as one of the premier resources for exotic companion mammal veterinarians.

Revay has been with the Mount Laurel Animal Hospital for six years and works with rabbits, birds, hamsters, ferrets, frogs, lizards and snakes, pretty much any household animal that isn’t a dog or cat. She had a lot of exotic pets growing up and back when she was a vet student, she rescued a rabbit off the side of the road in west Philadelphia and he captured her heart. She’s previously worked with cats and dogs but that moment with the rescued rabbit contributed to her gravitating towards the exotics department at the hospital.

“We deal with so many different species and they’re all very different, and also there’s not a lot of literature or scientific study done on nearly as much of things with them as there are for dogs and cats, so it’s a lot of comparative anatomy and science and working with what you have,” Revay said of working with exotics. “But that’s probably also some of the best parts too because it feels like a new frontier, so you get to discover things and work through stuff in new, collaborative ways.”

The Mount Laurel Animal Hospital has served the community for more than 50 years. Its team of more than 50 doctors and more than 300 staff members is dedicated to the best possible 24-hour general, emergency and specialty veterinary care for all fur babies. The property sits on 16-acres and includes a farm that’s home to Longhorn and black Angus cattle, goats, emu, alpaca, sheep and more. More information is available on the hospital’s main website or social media.
