New Councilman Curtis Green was sworn in by Assemblywoman Carol Murphy at a special Sept. 30 meeting as his wife, Tia, held the Bible.
Curtis Green was sworn in as Mount Laurel’s newest council member at its meeting on Sept. 30, replacing Kareem Pritchett.
Pritchett announced on Sept. 10 that he was resigning, effective immediately, to care for his ailing mother. Solicitor George Morris explained that since he stepped down after a Sept. 1 deadline previously established by state law, the township’s Democratic County Committee had to choose three potential replacements.
Green was chosen from those three. The veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves was a teacher as well as a football and track coach for Lakewood Public Schools from 2020 to 2024. Prior to that, he was lead pastor at Skypointe Church in Wilmington, Delaware; taught at Sayreville War Memorial High School in Middlesex County; and was coordinator of entertainment technologies at Rowan College at Burlington County.
Green holds a bachelor’s degree in communication arts from Thomas Edison University and has three master’s degrees, one in practical theology from Southwestern Assemblies of God University. He also has a doctorate in educational leadership from Liberty University and is a a licensed minister of the Assemblies of God.
Green previously ran for state assembly and was a member of the township board of education from January of 2023 until his resignation last month. He expressed gratitude to council and noted he was also the founding chaplain of the township police department.
“I just want to say thank you to council for welcoming me,” Green noted. “It’s an honor and privilege. I don’t take the service lightly that’s put before me. I will do everything to the best of my ability to serve the township of Mount Laurel as appointed by the council.
“It’s good to see our police department here,” he added. “For those who don’t know, I am actually the founding chaplain almost 13 years ago. It’s a pleasure for me to able to have served here in Mount Laurel as a chaplain, school board member, and now here on council.
“Thank you so much for entrusting me in being a part of this council.”
