The Lenape Regional High School District recognized 29 students last month for their positive impact, character and ability to build connections with the community at its annual People’s Choice Awards at Lenape High.
Tom Tamburello, a math teacher at the school, was the first presenter of the event and noted that the nominated students will be given medals to wear at graduation by teachers who nominated them for the award.
Those recognized are Madison Brunswick, Isabella Dickson, Owen Dickson, Alana LaFrance, Ayden Collins, Reggie Lawrence, Kayla Principe, Ryanne Kelly, Eric Lundy, Sabrina Repsher, Brayden Eniosca, Sarah Allen, Olivia Kuemmerle-Loy, Dev’yne Smith, Christina Soule, Emma Moon, Jill Bak, Olivia Sleeper, Jaydalyn Rice, MJ Volkmar, Ian Tuch, Alexa Volpe, Madeline Jastrzembski, Ava Kueny, Gabriella Suglia, Daveyon Gee, Lexi Buciorelli, Zamaury Youngest, and Darius Howard.
Health and physical education teacher Jody Stansbury, set to retire from Lenape High after this school year, was at the awards.
“It’s a pleasure to be here for my last People’s Choice Awards,” she said. “It’s a great ceremony to honor these fine young people here. It’s a true honor that I’m going to miss.”
Joseph De Julius, assistant principal at Lenape High, gave closing remarks and commended the students for buildiing a sense of community within the school.
“I knew coming into tonight that I would be closing out the ceremony,” he acknowledged, “and after hearing all of those beautiful and heartfelt words about our students, I can confidently say that nothing I say now is going to top what you’ve already heard, so I promise to keep this short.
“What tonight really highlights is why the People’s Choice Awards matter,” De Julius added. “This ceremony isn’t about titles or achievements, it’s about character. It’s about the students who show kindness, bring joy into our building and make Lenape feel like a community simply by being themselves.
“To our students, hearing the way the adults in your life spoke about you tonight should remind you that your impact matters, even on the days you don’t realize it.”
De Julius then recognized those who supported the students.
“To our families, thank you for your partnership and for supporting these incredible young people,” he said. “And to our faculty and staff, thank you for noticing, and caring, and for taking the time to celebrate what truly matters.”
