We finally caught a glimpse of green grass for the first time in several weeks, only to be blanketed with about 17 inches of snow that hit on Feb. 22 and 23.
Although winter storm Hernando brought record numbers, the less-than-frigid temperatures provided a more conducive environment for the cleanup process. I want to take a moment to recognize the incredible work of our public works department. Our DPW team did a phenomenal job plowing and clearing municipal roads and working long hours in tough conditions to ensure that our residents could travel safely.
These storms demand working around the clock and a whole lot of dedication. Our team delivered for our community once again.
I also want to thank our residents for your patience and cooperation. Snow events of this magnitude test all of us, but time and time again, Mantua rises to the occasion. With that being said, I think we can all agree we’re ready to trade snowplows for sunshine and look forward to the first day of spring on March 20.
Hang in there my friends, as warmer days are right around the corner.
- – Deputy Mayor Eileen Lukens and I stopped at Steak Out on Woodbury-Glassboro Road on Feb. 19 to support the Mantua police bike team. Ten percent of sales at the restaurant supported the police department’s fundraising efforts. Team members will ride for those who’ve died in this year’s Police Unity Tour. The team of seven Mantua officers will travel more than 200 miles from May 9 to 12 to the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, D.C.
If you missed this opportunity to support our beloved bike team, you can still donate by contacting Lt. Brian Hauss at bhauss@mantuatownship.com.
- – Deputy Mayor Lukens, Committeeman Jay Snyder and Committeeman Jack Steen and I attended the Feb. 20 Arrow of Light Ceremony for Cub Scout Pack 7045 at our community center. The commitment, perseverance and leadership nurtured within Mantua Township Cub Scout Pack 7045 is exemplified by Forest Brant, Musa Diallo, Blake Hurst, Preston Maas, Brynden Sharp and Sawyer Sharp, who earned the distinguished Arrow of Light Award and will now advance in their Scouting journey.
The Cub Scouts completed the six required Adventures for the Arrow of Light, including Bobcat Adventure, Outdoor Adventurer, Personal Fitness, Citizenship, First Aid and Duty to God, as well as two additional elective Adventures.
Congratulations Forest, Musa, Blake, Preston, Brynden and Sawyer. We’re extremely proud of your hard work and your commitment to Scouting. It was an honor to be a part of your ceremony and to present each of you with a township proclamation.
- – Deputy Mayor Lukens, Committeeman Steen, Committeeman Snyder and I welcomed Tractor Supply to Mantua on Feb.21 with a ribbon cutting and a proclamation.
Tractor Supply is located at 669 Bridgeton Pike and will be led by manager Tim King and assistant manager Joe Karlo. Under their guidance, we expect the business to operate successfully and efficiently, serving as a valued community partner and positively impacting the residents of Mantua and beyond.
Tractor Supply’s slogan, “For life out here,” embodies the company’s dedication to serving outdoor lifestyles, a mission that complements the agricultural heritage and community spirit of Mantua. The business will feature a variety of services, including a dedicated garden center, an on-site pet-washing station and propane refills for tanks up to 100 pounds.
- – The township committee and I want to congratulate Mantua firefighter Kevin Donahue on his recent and successful graduation from the Gloucester County Fire Academy’s Firefighter I and II program. We wish Kevin a safe and prosperous career serving the residents of our great community.
