As 2021 begins, the United States has reached a tragic milestone as the government now reports more than 20 million COVID-19 cases.
As of Jan. 4, there are now 20.7 million cases, and 351,590 deaths. The hope is that the new vaccines will turn the tide in this fight against the novel coronavirus pandemic.
âOur thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families, and we continue to wish a full and fast recovery to everyone battling this disease,â said Camden County Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli, Jr. âAs we put 2020 behind us, we have many reasons to feel optimistic about the year ahead. With vaccines already being rolled out, the end of this pandemic may finally be within sight.
âWhile this yearâs celebrations certainly looked and felt differently, I hope everyone has a very happy and safe New Year,â Cappelli said.
The COVID-19 statistics, as of Monday, Jan. 4, are as follows:
The United States has a total of 20,639,854 COVID-19 cases, and there have been 351,590 reported deaths.
Globally, the world reports more than 85.2 million cases. Sadly, more than 1,84 million human beings have perished.
In New Jersey, the state now reports 492,042 cases, with 17,187 deaths. State officials estimate that there are an additional 2,021 probable deaths, for an overall total of 19,308 residents dying.
Camden County reports 28,678 cases, with 747 deaths. Gloucester City reports 524 cases, with 60 new cases this past week. Brooklawn reports three new cases, for a total of 85, while Bellmawr now has 643 cases â including 52 new cases last week.
Mount Ephraim has 161 COVID-19 cases, with 10 more reported last week. Runnemede has 362 cases, with 40 new ones last week.
