Beginning August 1, New Jersey restaurants and food businesses no longer automatically included plastic utensils, condiment packets, or napkins with takeout and delivery orders under a new state law passed in January of this year.
You can still receive these items, but you will need to request them. If you’re ordering online or through an app, be sure to check the box if you need utensils, condiments, or napkins.
The new law is designed to reduce landfill waste, decrease litter, and conserve resources. For more information, visit dep.nj.gov/get-past-plastic/condiments-utensils-straws/
