On a hot, steamy evening June 12, the 225 members of the Gloucester City High School Class of 2026 walked proudly to their seats on the football field with the traditional processional “Pomp and Circumstance” playing on the public address system and the cheers of hundreds of family and friends ringing in their ears.

After everyone was settled Class President Olivia Krischner led the students, teachers and relatives in the bleachers in saying the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by the playing of a recording of the National Anthem by the U.S. Marine Corps.

“This is the beginning of a new adventure. Dream big and achieve bigger. You are ready to conquer the universe,” said the first speaker, Salutatorian Sophia Fiorentino, who praised the GHS faculty and staff for building a community here “that is irreplaceable. Thanks to my family, friends and mentors. I will always love you and appreciate you.”

Reflecting on their time as GHS, Third Honors Giuliana Gambone said that the big events such as Homecoming, the prom and championship games were great, but it was the everyday routine, “the middle collectively, that was the biggest part of our lives. The middle is where we become ourselves and where we will continue to grow.”

Valedictorian Audrey Harding said, “No matter what you decide to pursue in the future, take the risk. Keep working when you feel like giving up. Be proud of everything you have achieved. I wish you all the best of luck. There is so much more to come for us.”

Before the presentation of diplomas to the graduates, Principal Sean Gorman said, “For four years we have tried to develop you mind and character. You will always carry a piece of GHS as a part of you. Take more chances. Worry less and enjoy every moment with everyone around you.”

The Commencement ceremony continued with the graduates walking up and receiving the diplomas, ending a week of joy and celebration on their last days as students at Gloucester City High School. The Class of 2026 had enjoyed the Baccalaureate Ceremony on June 8, their Senior Picnic on Tuesday, June 9, and the Senior Awards Night on June 11.

The Gloucester City News congratulates all the members of the Class of 2026. They have worked hard, earned a high school diploma and will soon start their new journeys in life.
