Washington Township: Election results

Voters in Washington Township went to the polls on Nov. 5 and elected members for mayor, township council and school board of education.

The Gloucester County Clerk’s Office has posted results from the election on its website, all of which are unofficial until a vote-counting process that could take more than a week is complete.

Vote totals do not include late mail-in and provisional ballots; they are expected to be tallied at a later date.

Washington Township Mayor

Democratic Mayor Laurie J. Burns vied Republican Township Council member Anthony Dellapia for the mayor seat. As of Nov. 7, Dellapia leads with 14,843 votes over Burns with 12,521 votes.

Washington Township Council

Four candidates vied for the two seats on the township council. As of Nov. 7, the Republican candidates – Joseph J. Harris with 14,659 votes and incumbent Richard Bennett with 14,613 votes – lead over Democratic candidates Paul J. Esposito with 12,564 votes and David J. Tomczak, who has received 12,306 votes.

There are 40 write-in votes.

Washington Township Board of Education

Six candidates vied for the three, three-year term seats on the board of education. As of Nov. 7, Candidate Elayne Clancy leads with 10,626 votes followed by incumbent Steven Serrano with 10,145 votes and Candidate Linda Hartong with 9,505 votes.

Candidate Brandy Williams has received 8,766 votes, Christopher O’Brien has received 7,466 votes and incumbent James Arpino has received 7,360 votes.

There are 315 write-in votes.

Two candidates vied for the one, one-year unexpired term. As of Nov. 7, Candidate Julie Kozempel leads with 9,817 votes over incumbent Sean Lindsay, who has received 8,548 votes. There are 126 write-in votes.
