The Burlington County Farm Fair will be held at the county’s fairgrounds beginning on Tuesday.
Admission is free and the five-day fair continues through Saturday, July 26. Hours are 2 to 10 p.m. weekdays and noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday. A fireworks show is expected to kick off opening night at 9:45 p.m.
“My favorite memories are just how the fair has grown,” said its manager, Rosemary Kay. “Not that it was ever a small farm fair, but it had to grow into what it is now.”
This year’s fair is expected to include a variety of activities, including 4-H exhibits, a children’s tractor pull contest and an adult tractor pull, a recyclable scarecrow contest, animal displays and horse shows (all animals may not be in attendance every day, per weather conditions), pony rides, a men’s spike-driving contest and a women’s skillet throw.
There will also be musical entertainment, vendors and two food courts, and the second annual farm fair rodeo. All amusement rides will be open daily at 4 p.m. Parking is $15 per carload; $10 with military ID. Multi-day parking passes for $30 are also available.
“This is our 79th year – we will be 80 years old next year – and it’s just quite the fair,” Kay noted. “When you do this much work and you plan all year, it’s better to have something a little bit longer than a little bit shorter. Over the years, the fair has gone from three days to four days to five days …
“It seems that five days is the magic number for us.”
The farm fair acknowledges support for the event from the Burlington County Board of Commissioners, who continue to recognize the importance of keeping agriculture alive in the county; the event’s officers and trustees; and its sponsors and contributors.
