The honorees are Irch Gerner, Rich “Richie” Gerner Jr., Rich “Porkchop” Butler, Lisa Butler, Florence Demark, Ben Bono, Joe Knowles, Bob McGrath, Lil’ Moore, Jim Moore and Frank Messick. Seven of them were able to attend the meeting.

“They’re a huge part of the event,” said Mayor Paul Medany. “They help set up the grill, cook the hamburgers, hot dogs and cook all the food. We couldn’t do these things without them.”

Close to 40 people were in attendance at the council meeting, according to Medany. Council also named the business of the month, Peddler’s Shop on Deptford Center Road, a business that specializes in bicycles and their equipment.

“They’re good people,” Medany said of the owners, who were not at the meeting. “They helped us out greatly with the bike rodeo events we had over the summer.”

Those events were held in August to teach kids the importance of safe bicycle riding. The Peddlers Shop had a table set up at the events and provided free helmets for kids to take home.

Council also introduced an ordinance that tweaks the township’s existing affordable-housing policy so it falls in line with state mandates. The exact changes made were not revealed at the meeting.
