Gloucester City will travel to Schalick for 7 p.m. game

On Friday night, Aug. 25, the Gloucester City High School football team will travel to Schalick for its first game of the season at 7 p.m. The Lions home opener will be the following Friday, Sept. 1, at 7 p.m. against Buena.
The Gloucester Catholic High School football team, which uses Gloucester High’s field for home games, opens its season by hosting Palmyra on Thursday, Aug. 31, at 11 a.m. Good luck to both the Lions and the Rams.
Brooklawn Legion
A tremendous season for the Brooklawn American Legion Post 72 baseball team ended with a tough, 4-1 loss to Texas during the semifinal game of the World Series on Aug. 14 in Shelby, NC.
Overall, the Brookers played excellent baseball all summer, winning the New Jersey Legion baseball championship. Then they went on to win the Mid Atlantic Regional baseball championship with a 10-3 victory over Harrisburg, PA, to advance to the American Legion World Series.
Golf Tournament Sept. 9
The Brooklawn American Legion Post 72 will be holding its annual Golf Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Valleybrook Country Club. Check in is at 1 p.m. and tee off is at 2 p.m.
The cost is $85 per golfer and includes 18 holes of golf with cart, snacks and beverage at check-in – followed by beverages and a buffet dinner back at the post on Railroad Avenue.
Prizes will be awarded for closest to the pin on all par threes, longest drive, straightest drive and putting contest.
