The campaign team of Democratic congressional candidate Zack Mullock recently revealed he is now just one point behind the incumbent in his bid for election to the U.S. House of Representatives. Mullock announced the results of the internal poll during a rally in Vineland. Mullock spoke earnestly about the importance of Vineland in his previously long-shot attempt to win the seat.

The Mayor of Cape May, running on a message of bipartisanship and experience, expects to defeat Republican Representative Jeff Van Drew in the House race for New Jersey’s second district seat. The district is centered in Cumberland, Atlantic, and and Cape May counties.

Van Drew, formerly a Democrat, is running for his fifth term. His team scoffed at the poll in particular and his opponent’s chances in general.

“Every cycle the Democrats get together, commission a fake poll saying this seat is in play to use as a fundraising ploy, and every year Congressman Van Drew proves them wrong—this is nothing new,” said Ron Filan, Van Drew’s campaign manager and public relations director.

“The vote in Vineland will be hugely important in our effort to flip the House as a result of this election,” Mullock reminded his supporters.

The National Democratic Campaign Committee categorized the race on October 2 as “in play.” There are 58 other districts nationwide with the designation. The 435-member House currently has 218 Republicans, 214 Democrats, and one independent. Two seats are vacant.

Note: Election Day is next Tuesday. Vote by mail (or secure drop box) ballots were distributed earlier this month. In-person early voting is also underway.
