The Gloucester City Police reported that on Sept. 3 at approximately 1 a.m. officers responded to a residence on the 600 block of Ridgeway Street after learning that a male poured lighter fluid all over the house and on the two victims.
Upon arrival, officers determined that the victims were removed from the residence and the suspect was still inside.
Officers secured a perimeter, evacuated the residents of the neighborhood and requested the Camden County Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team (SERT) to respond.
Approximately at 2:36 a.m. the suspect exited the residence and was placed under arrest. Eugene J. Jackson, 39, of Gloucester City was charged with the following offenses:
Two counts of attempted murder; attempted arson; arson recklessly endangering death or serious bodily injury; two counts of aggravated assault; terroristic threats; possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose; unlawful possession of a weapon; and endangering.
Mr. Jackson was remanded to the Camden County Department of Corrections pending a detention hearing.
All individuals charged with crimes are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
