The township’s Margaret E. Heggan Library will host multiple summer events for kids, teenagers and adults alike.
One of them is “Celebrate the 250th: George Washington Remembers New Jersey,” at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7. The event will feature historical actor David Emerson portraying America’s first president and telling stories about Revolutionary-War campaigns and battles in the state.
“Throughout his career,” said Stephanie Kolodziej, the library’s public relations specialist, “David has worked at living history museums and as an independent storyteller, teaching history through the eyes of a ‘person of the past.’ He is a veteran of Colonial Williamsburg, Plimoth Patuxet (a group of living history museums in Plymouth, Massachusetts), Morristown National Historical Park, the Old Barracks Museum and the New Jersey Council for the Humanities Horizons Speakers Bureau.
Other events for adults will include Unearth a Story on Friday, July 17, at 3 p.m. and a sports equipment exchange on Saturday, July 11, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
For teenagers, there will be a TAB (Teenage Advisory Board) Teen Talk on Thursday, July 2, at 4 p.m., provided by the library as an open space for teens to talk about anything they want with their peers.
“The group meets to talk about your personal favorites, latest trends and greatest trends, artists and entertainers and new finds and interesting facts,” Kolodziej explained. “(It) will explore a wide array of topics, trivia and debate in a supportive atmosphere.”
Teens can also meet for a Babysitter’s Club session at the library on Tuesday, July 28, at 4 p.m.; and the TAB’s game of Dungeons & Dragons on Wednesday, July 29, at 4 p.m. Kids will also be able to participate when the library hosts scientists from the Edelman Fossil Park and Museum in Sewell on Friday, July 10, at 1:30 p.m.
“Kids and teens will have the opportunity to engage with real scientists and touch real fossils and specimens from the active fossil quarry on the property that are over 66 million years old,” Kolodziej noted.
More events for kids include Triassic Trivia on Monday, July 6, at 7 p.m.; Dino-snores bedtime stories on Monday, July 20, at 7 p.m.; and the annual Truck Night on Wednesday, July 29, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Events are free and may require a library card. Apply for one at the library and register for events on its website. Registrations also open and close at varying points, depending on when an event takes place.
