The Clearview Regional school board honored the teachers and staff of the district’s middle and high school who will retire at the end of the year at its May 28 meeting.

Retiring from the middle school are math teacher Jill Miller and ELA instructor Sharon Coleman. Both were introduced by the school’s principal, Kate Bourquin, who spoke highly of their dedication to bettering students over the years.

“Ms. Miller,” Bourquin said, “is proving that math is much more than just about number. It’s about mentorship and accessibility. With 27 years of dedication to Clearview, she has become a pillar of the mathematics department, combining decades of expertise with a positive, happy demeanor that can turn a class vibrant.”

“Mrs. Sharon Coleman has been a constant with the ELA department at the middle school,” Bourquin noted, “teaching students that the power of a story is often matched by the power of being a supportive teacher. Mrs. Coleman is celebrated not just by academic expertise, but her unique ability to see the person behind the paper. That is a direct quote from a student during Teacher Appreciation Week.”

Introducing the retirees was Clearview High Principal Thomas Jones.

“We’re going to lose a whole lot of institutional knowledge in this year, with the amount of years of experience of the retirees that are gonna be leaving the high school,” he acknowledged. “It’s going to be immensely, immensely difficult to replace.”

Jones and the board also honored high-school biological science teacher Bruce Ewing, health and phys ed teacher Deana Moore and secretaries Debra Brown and Marilyn Goetz. Absent from the meeting were English teacher Christian Ahern, secretary Joanne Daly and transportation supervisor Kelle Harbaugh.

“Debbie’s been the face of our athletics and activities office for years,” Jones related of Brown. “She’s someone that does so many things that are behind the scenes and only noticed by those that know the inner workings of that office. Debbie’s always someone that goes above and beyond of what can be expected of anyone in her position, and is always looking out for the best of our students and staff.”

The retirees received special plaques engraved with their names.

The board also recognized the governor’s educators of the year honorees: Middle-school science teacher Erin Zambon and social studies teacher Jenna Scott. Both were unable to make the meeting.
