On July 18 at approximately 3:30 p.m., the Harrison Township Fire District was dispatched for a reported brush/tree fire. Upon arrival, Ladder 23 found a tree on fire with flames extending to the exterior of a residence.
Due to the quick actions of our firefighters, the fire was contained to the exterior of the home, preventing what could have been a much more serious incident.
This is another close call involving the use of a propane torch to burn weeds. The district recommends residents do not use a torch to kill weeds.
“A small flame can quickly ignite dry grass, mulch, landscaping, fences, shrubs, trees or even your home,” the district said in a statement, “especially during hot, dry or windy conditions. A few minutes saved isn’t worth risking your home, your property or the safety of your family and neighbors.”
