Monroe Township Council honored Williamstown High School’s girls’ flag football team during a meeting on May 27 when the team was presented with a township proclamation.

The Braves secured their first West Jersey Football League (WJFL) state championship on May 18, when they capped off what was only their second season by defeating Pleasantville High School 20-0. The team also performed in front of Philadelphia Eagles’ players Jalen Hurts, Cooper DeJean and Jihaad Campbell at the Jefferson Health Training Complex.

“I’m so proud of every girl that you see here (who) has helped us in every victory we had this year,” said head coach Jamie Land. “Thank you to the parents for your constant support and I really had the best time coaching this year. Thanks to my assistant (coach) Karen Dilmore.

“Girls, I truly love each and every one of you; I think you’re all truly great kids.”

Meeting attendees cheered team members as they walked to the front of the council chambers with their championship trophy. Mayor Greg Wolfe presented the proclamation and read parts of it aloud.

“The Williamstown High School girls’ flag football team has achieved an extraordinary milestone by capturing the state championship,” he read, “completing a remarkable season with an outstanding record of 16-1. These dedicated student athletes have demonstrated exceptional skill, teamwork, perseverance and sportsmanship.

“Proudly recognizing Monroe Township public schools and the whole Braves community.”

Members of the team and its staff have also been recognized elsewhere for their contributions to the success of the team and sport. Land was named the 2025 coach of the year at the inaugural All-South Jersey Touchdown Club banquet last year.

“The achievements of this team have inspired the school community, elevated opportunities for female athletes and contributed to the continued growth of girls’ flag football across the region,” Wolfe read from the proclamation.

Land also rallied her team at the meeting.

“Let’s get another one next year.”
