Hundreds gathered at Owens Park on May 16 to take part in Monroe Township Community Affairs’ Walk for Mental Health.
The event is meant to raise awareness and remind people with mental-health issues that they are not alone.
The walk’s featured speaker, Robert Durant, sang a powerful message through music that promoted hope, healing and joy. Musical guest Tony Luke Jr. also touched hearts with a song he wrote in memory of his son.
Resources for mental health were also available at the event, along with activities designed to relieve stress and more.
Councilmen Al Rossi and Brian Cope joined the walk, Williamstown High School’s JROTC presented the nation’s colors and resident Stevie Reid sang the national anthem. The township’s community affairs department partnered with the mayor’s Committee on Addiction Awareness to host the walk.
“Seeing hundreds of community members come together to walk, connect, learn and support one another was incredibly moving,” community affairs said on social media.
