The duties of a teacher are neither few nor small, but they elevate the mind and give energy to the character. The teacher is more important than what he teaches because they show you where to look but not what to see. Scott M. Howey showed us a gentle soul full of comedy and light hearted mischief. He was hilarious and often thought to be up to no good. He was just looking for a good deal.

Scott loved to fish and every angler has a story about how the big one just got away. On Thursday, March 25, 2021 Scott got away from us. After a very brief illness, he passed away at Jefferson Hospital in Washington Twp. at the age of 41. Miss me a little – but not too long — and not with your head bowed low. Remember the love that we once shared. Miss me – but let me go.

Scott was born in and spent his whole life as a Gloucester City neighbor. He was an avid Philadelphia sports fan cheering on the Eagles and Phillies. Scott had a genuine and sincere love for kids and worked as a teacher spending time in Bell Oaks School in Bellmawr and in Gloucester City.

Early on he worked at BJ’s and also worked recently for Grubhub. Scott was an animal lover and will be fondly remembered as helpful and an all-around good guy.

Scott is the son of the late John T. Howey Sr. & the late Catherine (nee Moss) Howey. He is the brother of Jeffrey Howey and is also survived by Amanda Soder, her children, Chucky, Joyce and Grace, his cousin Bryan Reisert, his aunts, Lucille Moss and Clara Oorlog, his uncle Cliff Oorlog, as well as many cousins and friends.

Relatives, friends, students and neighbors gathered with the Howey family to share stories in the Creran Celebration Etherington & Creran Funeral Home, 700 Powell St., Gloucester City. As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Susan G. Komen Greater Pennsylvania Foundation Attn: NJ300 13770 Noel Rd. Suite 801889 Dallas, TX 75380 www.komen.org.
