The Indian Mills Historical Society is dedicated to the education, history and preservation of historical structures and culturally significant aspects of Indian Mills and the surrounding areas.
The Pinelands Preservation Alliance was founded in 1989 to protect and advocate for New Jersey’ Pinelands through collaborative active, research, and education.
The society will partner with the alliance for an upcoming historical presentation. Marisa Bozarth, of the Burlington County Parks Division, will give a presentation on the 1640 book, “Theater of Plants,” featuring native plants of the Pine Barrens and beyond, at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, at 105 Willow Grove Road in Shamong.
The alliance will sell native plants prior to the presentation starting at 5 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Indian Mills Historical Society, which is in the midst of a membership drive.
“We have many members by name, but we are looking for members of the community who are looking to be actively engaged in the society and can help plan, volunteer for, and coordinate different events and educational programs,” said Erin Wilkins, events coordinator for the society.
“We welcome folks of all ages to bring their ideas and community spirit, but it is increasingly imperative that we spark interest in the younger generation, the next generation of community stewards.
“As with most things, they only survive if someone cares enough to carry them forward.”
Community stewards have a number of upcoming events to spark interest:
