The event is meant to raise awareness of animal adoption and find forever homes for pets. The church is partnering with the Gloucester County Animal Shelter in Clayton, which will bring dogs for adoption.

“The church wanted to raise awareness for the importance of animal adoption,” said Janet Fleming, event organizer for the church. “The church wanted to do an outreach event, and this is something that is near and dear to them. Members of the congregation have adopted animals from them (the animal shelter) in the past.”

A ticket raffle will take place at the event, with prizes coming from individual and local business donations. All proceeds from will go to the animal shelter. Vendors representing animal groups and local businesses will also be on hand.

Paws and Neighbors is intended for families. It is also free, with the exception of vendor purchases and the raffle. A bounce house will be there for kids to use and hot dogs will be provided while supplies last.

Anyone interested in adopting an animal before or after the event can contact the shelter by phone at (856) 881-2828 or email at gcas@co.gloucester.nj.us. Hours of adoption are Monday from noon to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A list of pets up for adoption can be found on petfinder.com.

“We’re hoping for around 100 to 200 people,” Fleming said of Paws and Neighbors. “We hope to connect with each other and share the joy of loving animals, each other and finding animals a home.”
