For her sensational first screen outing, Barbra Streisand shared an Oscar for Best Actress (with Katharine Hepburn) for her tour-de-force performance as early 20th century musical-comedy star Fanny Brice in this lavish cinematic translation of the Jule Styne/Bob Merrill Broadway smash helmed by cinematic great William Wyler (“Ben-Hur”).  Omar Sharif plays Nicky Arnstein, her scheming husband, Kay Medford, Fanny’s tough but loving mother. 1968.  149 min. April 9 – Blackout Poetry Workshop – 2 p.m.

In honor of National Poetry Month, Mount Laurel Library is hosting a Blackout Poetry Workshop. Blackout poetry, also known as erasure poetry or redacted poetry, is a form of found poetry whereby participants use pages from a book and blackout words to create a poem. Unleash your creativity in a fun, creative, and supportive environment. For those who wish to, there will be an opportunity to share your poems. Advanced, beginner, and aspiring poets are welcome. All supplies provided. No registration required. 

April 9 – Fiction Discussion: The Short Stories of Jacob Appel – 7 p.m. Virtual

Appel is a novelist, playwright, essayist, lawyer, and psychiatrist. He is the winner of numerous awards for short stories, such as the Faulkner Award, the Vonnegut Award, and the Pushcart Prize. It has been said of his fiction that it is “unfailingly clear-eyed and empathetic, alive to the humor and heart-wrenching irony of our shortcomings.”  We’ll discuss three of his short stories. Links to the stories will be sent out prior to our discussion. Program hosted by Paul Howe. Registration required, you will receive a Zoom link before the event.

April 11 – Coloring Club – Teen Leadership Project – 11 a.m.

Come on in and enjoy a relaxing coloring session. Make your own bookmarks, or just color freely. No registration required.

This is a leadership project initiative. These sessions will be supervised by student volunteers. Please note that this does not suffice for adult supervision. Drop offs at the Library will not be permitted. 

April 11 – Strength & Conditioning – 11:30 a.m. Virtual. Registration required. Zoom link provided the day before.

Join Harman Ransi in his beginner-friendly resistance training course. The class will teach fundamental stretches and weighted exercises to build flexibility and muscle. Registration required. You will receive a Zoom link the day before. 

April 11 – Living History Presentation: “Life of a Union Soldier in the Civil War” – 2 p.m. Presented by historical interpreter Garry Wetstein, the program features authentic uniforms, equipment and reference materials that bring the era to life and offers insight behind the history

April 12 – Concert: Marc Berger Ride – 2 p.m.

Marc Berger performs a collection of songs and stories of the American West. Marc will perform some songs from his album Ride. Marc Berger & Ride bring a well choreographed mix of deep country folk songs with touches of bluegrass, roots, Americana, a little spicy Cajun, and even a little indie with an effects laced lead acoustic guitar. 

Marc has performed at Austin’s South by Southwest Music Festival and The Kerrville and Falcon Ridge Folk Festivals and has opened shows for Bob Dylan and other national acts. His song THE LAST ONE was a staple of Richie Havens’ concerts and has been quoted in the NY Times and featured on The CBS Evening News.

April 13 – Move & Groove – 10:30 a.m.

Join us for this weekly event where we dance along to a playlist of our favorite songs and play with egg shakers, rhythm sticks, and more! Designed for ages 18 months – 5 years old, this program gives kids a chance to dance, sing, and get active! No registration required. 

April 14 – Mah Jong – 1 p.m.

Mahjong is a fun and popular tile-based game of strategy, skill, and lots of luck. Some experience recommended. Bring your National Mahjong League 2025 card and a mahjong set (if you have one). No registration required.

April 14 – La Hora del Cuento en Español. Story time in Spanish – 4:30 p.m.

Ven y disfruta de la  Hora del Cuento en Español, un espacio para aprender a través de la imitación de canciones, versos y juegos mientras nos sumergimos en una nueva cultura y lengua. Este programa contribuirá al desarrollo integral de los niños, cultivando el crecimiento de la imaginación y la exploración significativa.

April 15 – Arts and Crafts for Adults with Disabilities – 10:30 a.m.

Join us for a fun arts & crafts class designed for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We may be using materials such as clay and paint that can get messy, so please wear appropriate clothing! 

Ages 18+ only. Please note that the library does not provide respite care; caregivers are required to stay with adults who need them. Adults who do not require a caregiver are also welcome to attend. 

Registration required (please register participants only; no need to register caregivers).
