A 25-year-old Mount Laurel man has been sentenced to seven years in state prison for sexually assaulting an underage female last year, according to Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw.

Jake E. Toczylowski admitted to assaulting the girl after communicating with her on a messaging app and convincing her to meet him in person. Under an agreement with the prosecutor, he pled guilty in October to one count of sexual assault in exchange for the seven-year sentence handed down on March 18 in Superior Court.

The investigation began last August, after a family member of the victim reported the assault to Mount Laurel police. The crime occurred in Toczylowski’s vehicle while it was parked on a township street. Additional details are being withheld in an effort to protect the victim’s identity.

At the time of his arrest, Toczylowski was employed by the township’s Municipal Utilities Authority. A condition of the plea agreement bars him from public employment after he completes his prison term. He will placed on the state’s sex offender registry, meaning he will have parole supervision for life.

Bradshaw urged parents to monitor who their children are communicating with online.

“Unfortunately, this type of crime occurs way too frequently,” Bradshaw said. “Children must be cautioned about interacting with strangers and also encouraged to immediately report inappropriate communications.”

Multiple online resources exist to assist parents in protecting their children, including information provided by the New Jersey Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, of which the prosecutor’s office is a member. Those materials can be accessed on Facebook at www.facebook.com/newjerseyicactaskforce.

The investigation was conducted by the Mount Laurel police detective bureau and the county prosecutor’s Special Victim’s Unit.
