Local and county officials joined representatives of the South Jersey Transportation Authority and the Camden County Department of Health and Human Services to celebrate delivery of the meals.

The Camden County Board of Commissioners recently marked a milestone: the delivery of the one-millionth meal through a county initiative.

The Home Delivered Meal Program, launched in partnership with the South Jersey Transportation Authority in 2017, ensures nutritious meals reach homebound seniors through specialized delivery vehicles equipped with both hot and cold food storage.

“This milestone reflects our unwavering commitment to ensuring food security for our senior residents,” said Commissioner Virginia Betteridge. “The Home Delivered Meal Program provides a sense of dignity and independence to our seniors, and every meal delivered is a reminder that they are not alone.”

The recipient of the one-millionth meal was Gloucester Township resident Dolores Hilferty.

Congressman Donald Norcross praised the food program’s output, noting the vital role the Older Americans Act plays in funding programs that combat senior hunger.

“This week, we celebrate one million meals delivered to seniors in our community, a major milestone for our Home Delivered Meal program,” he said. “This program ensures that no senior is left hungry or forgotten. Everyone deserves access to a nutritious meal, and I’m honored to say we’ve delivered that to one million individuals in South Jersey.”

The Camden County Home Delivered Meals Program currently provides meals to more than 400 seniors every weekday. There is no waiting list for the service. To qualify, individuals must be 60 years or older, reside in Camden County, and unable to leave home without assistance or prepare a nutritious meal for themselves.

For more information or to apply for the Home Delivered Meal Program, residents can call (856) 374-MEAL (6325).
