The Gloucester City High School football team was trailing 7-6 in the first half when Willingboro tried a squib punt and almost recovered it at midfield.

However, Carter Baldus recognized the play and picked up the punt at full speed and raced down the sidelines for 30 yards to set up a second touchdown run by Ibby Hudwell several plays later, giving the Lions a 12-7 lead.

Hudwell scored his first touchdown on an electric 62-yard dash down the sideline after the Lions offensive line created a big hole for him to go through, and finished the game with 115 yards on the ground.

Jayden Tillman scored on a 17-yard run and quarterback Kevin Boulden scored the final touchdown on a five-yard run to seal the victory.

The defense, led by Harry Ulmer, tightened up as Gloucester City improved its record to 3-1 this season with a 25-15 victory in a hard-fought game before hundreds of Lions fans.

“Ulmer was a wrecking ball on defense coming up with a handful of big stops. The senior’s biggest plays came in the fourth quarter where a pair of sacks essentially iced the game for the Lions helping them bounce back with a division win,” longtime educator Joe Gorman said. Also at the game, Gloucester High held its annual “Fall Senior Parent Appreciation Night,” honoring the parents of all the fall athletes and band members.
