
A late-night head-on collision on Hickstown Road in the Sicklerville section of Gloucester Township left multiple people injured and shut down the roadway for several hours, according to township police.
The crash occurred around 10:32 p.m. on the 600 block of Hickstown Road on Aug. 20. Initial reports indicated one of the vehicles involved was on fire, with a person trapped inside. Authorities say a nearby resident acted quickly with a fire extinguisher, knocking down the flames before first responders arrived.
Gloucester Township police were joined at the scene by Gloucester Township Fire Districts 85 and 86, along with multiple EMS units including Virtua Paramedics. Occupants from both vehicles were transported to area hospitals, including Cooper University Hospital in Camden, Virtua Voorhees, and Virtua Berlin.
A preliminary investigation by the Gloucester Township Police Department’s Serious Crash Investigation Team (SCIT) determined that a sedan traveling westbound lost control and veered into the eastbound lane, colliding head-on with an SUV. The sedan’s driver sustained serious injuries, police said.
As a result of the crash, Hickstown Road was closed between Erial Road and Peter Cheeseman Road while investigators worked the scene. Police confirmed that no charges have been filed at this time, and the identities of those involved are being withheld pending family notification.
