The Harrison Township Recreation Commission will offer four summer camps this year at William Wilt Soccer Complex for preschoolers who are 2 to 4 years old.

From Monday through Thursday during the week of June 30, the Disney Camp will take place from 9 to 10 a.m. and the Space Camp from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The second group of camps will be held from Monday through Thursday during the week of July 21: Christmas in July from 9 to 10 a.m. and the Beach Blast from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

The Disney Camp will employ art, stories and other elements to teach children about the workings of the renowned park. Space Camp will instruct kids on the planets in the solar system. Christmas in July will see attendees celebrate the holidays early by creating ornaments and other crafts. Beach Blast will teach kids about the animals, activities and overall experience of the Jersey Shore.

“We made each camp an hour long due to the kids’ attention spans,” said Recreation Coordinator Sharon Chew. “The different camps give us a little bit of variety based on what your little ones enjoy. They could be really into space or into all things Disney.”

The camps will be instructed by Jeanne Woerner, a fifth-grade teacher at St. Cecilia Catholic School in Pennsauken. The sessions will also help kids develop fine motor skills and learn lessons along the way, according to Chew.

“It gives the little ones a head start in learning,” she said.

Registration is available online at signupgenius.com. Each camp has a maximum capacity of 20 and is first come, first served. The camp registration fee is discounted for those who sign up before Monday, April 28. Parents are required to accompany their children to each session.

The preschool summer camps have been going on in Mullica Hill for the past seven years, according to Chew, and have been popular with families.

“They love them,” she said. “A lot of the time parents will drop off their older kids at one of our other camps and then come and spend time with their little ones at the preschool camp. It lets kids form friendships early and for parents to meet others as well.

“It’s a good community builder.”
