Schonfeld got his start in the fire service in 1976 and joined the township department in 1986. He served in the following line-officer positions from 1990 on: lieutenant, 1990-1991; captain, 1991-1993; station chief, 1994; department chief, 1997-1999; and deputy chief, 2000-2025.
