Jeffrey Jaworski, 58, encountered police at about 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 28 at the Fairfield Inn on Hurffville Road after officers answered a call about a guest acting aggressively. A preliminary investigation revealed that officers spoke with Jaworski after he opened the door to his room, then allegedly slammed it
shut. He refused the officers’ request to let them enter, and when they did so, the officers discovered Jaworski had jumped from a second-floor window in the room and escaped on foot.

Police followed him into a dense, wooded area in the rear of the hotel parking lot, where he told officers he had a gun. Sgt. David Grogan responded by firing his service weapon at Jaworski, but though he was hit, police said, Jaworski continued into the woods, jumped over a chain-link fence and fled on foot into Route 42 traffic. He was then taken into custody.

Jaworski was transported to Cooper Hospital in Camden to be treated for a non-fatal gunshot
wound. He has also been charged by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office with possession of a controlled dangerous substance. The shooting remains under investigation.

Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact Det. Jordan Plitt of the prosecutor’s office at (856) 384-5583.
