Police Chief John McBride recently accepted the Patriotic Employer Award from the U.S. Department of Defense on behalf of the Monroe police department. The award was presented by retired Marine Col. Alan Smith in recognition of the police department’s continued support for its officers who also serve in the military. The certificate will be displayed at police headquarters to also recognize the force for providing employment opportunities to guardsman, reservists and transitioning service members and veterans. The award nomination was submitted by officer Justin Fyffe, who is currently deployed with the Marines and who began his career with the police department in 2024.
