The township school district has announced the appointment of Jillian Barnes as its new supervisor of science and technology education, replacing Malika Moore.
Barnes brings extensive experience in science instruction, curriculum development and instructional leadership at both the classroom and district levels. She is an eighth-grade science teacher at Chestnut Ridge Middle School, where she has taken on multiple leadership roles.
Throughout her career, Barnes has demonstrated a strong commitment to high-quality science instruction, collaboration and innovation, the district said. She has contributed to curriculum writing, supported intervention programs and served in leadership roles focused on strengthening student learning outcomes.
Prior to the township, Barnes served in Plainfield public schools, where she contributed to district science initiatives and interdisciplinary literacy efforts. Her experience spans classroom teaching, district-level collaboration and professional learning leadership.
Barnes has a master’s in educational leadership from Kean University and maintains multiple New Jersey certifications, including K–12 Earth Science, principal and supervisor.
In her new township role, Barnes will lead district efforts to strengthen science programming; support teachers; advance the strategic use of instructional technology; and ensure students experience engaging, future-ready learning aligned to state standards and district goals.
“Jillian is a thoughtful instructional leader who understands both the classroom and the system,” noted school Superintendent Eric Hibbs. “Her ability to support teachers, drive curriculum improvement and thoughtfully integrate technology will help us continue moving our science and technology programs forward for all students.”
Barnes expressed enthusiasm about serving the township community.
“I am honored to step into this role and support our students, teachers and school leaders,” she said. “I look forward to building on the strong work already happening across the district, and continuing to expand meaningful science and technology learning experiences for all students.”
