The South Jersey branch of Alchemy X, a fitness studio in Sewell, invites residents to the Washington Lake Park Amphitheater in Washington Township for Wellness Wednesday classes.

The classes are taking place every Wednesday through Sept. 30 at 5:30 p.m. They are organized and taught by studio owner Keri Neal, who will be joined by certified instructors specializing in different modalities. Other activities will include yoga and mat Pilates, with sessions switching between the two.

A focus of Wellness Wednesday is not just to build physical strength, but also improve mental health.

“We’re building strength, flexibility, movement, and we’re building confidence against the stresses of everyday life,” Neal said. “In the studio, we like to flex that confidence muscle to help people build confidence when dealing with everyday stresses. When it comes to our classes, you’re building up your confidence against these stresses.

“We try to stress that all levels are welcome to the event,” she added. “We try to make everyone feel welcome and supported. We’re also stressing that people stick with their intentions for the class. If you’re just looking to connect or are seeking a challenge, we encourage people to do just that.”

Neal got the idea for wellness classes from Alchemy X franchise founder, Dana Marie Adams, who conducted a similar outdoor event at the studio’s Philadelphia location on Constitution Avenue.

“Each Wellness Wednesday features a complimentary fitness experience,” Adams explained, “alternating between Pilates and yoga, along with opportunities to connect with local wellness businesses, community partners and fellow attendees. The events are open to all fitness levels and are designed to make movement accessible and welcoming.

“It was done there (in Philadelphia) first,” Neal noted. “When I opened in South Jersey, I saw the benefits of getting outside, breathing in fresh air, feeling the grass, connecting with other people and moving the body.”

Each class is free and participants are required to bring a mat, water and comfortable clothes in advance. All skill levels – be it beginners or experts – and ages are welcome.
