Township council presented two proclamations at its June 10 meeting that recognized the work of people in the community.
Council Vice President Donald Brown presented one to resident Jimmy Luv, whose real name is Jimmy Melchionna. The document established June 10 of this year as Jimmy Luv Brings the Party Day in the community.
Luv has Williams syndrome, a genetic disorder that can lead to heart issues and other medical problems. Despite that, he shows enthusiasm and tries to spread positivity and kindness. At the council meeting, he brought smiles to attendees when he excitedly shouted, “Let’s Go!”
“Jimmy Luv has become a beloved and recognizable member of the community through his infectious enthusiasm and dedication to bring joy to people of all ages,” Brown said. “His positive attitude, community involvement and commitment to gathering in celebration (are to be admired).
“Jimmy Luv has earned a reputation as somebody who truly brings the party wherever he goes.”
Luv’s attitude has made him a township celebrity. A group on Facebook – called Jimmy Luv’s Fan Club – has close to 12,000 members. Friends and family at the council meeting sported T-shirts with his name and likeness.
“His ability to unite friends, neighbors, families and community members through laughter, music, friendship and goodwill has made a lasting impact on countless individuals throughout our region,” Brown added.
Council also recognized township Boy Scout Nico Tsoukalis, of Troop 123, for becoming an Eagle Scout. Councilman Jack Yerkes presented the proclamation to Tsoukalis, who earned the rank in January, the highest in Scouting.
For his Eagle Scout project, Tsoukalis helped install four trash and recycle receptacles at Old Stone House Village for the township to better handle waste management.
“Nicholas earned 49 merit badges,” Yerkes explained, “twenty-one of which are required for his Eagle Scout ranking. He exhibited exceptional leadership skills throughout his time in the Scouts, serving the positions of troop guide and then chief.
“Nicholas performed more than 175 hours of community service, camped 110 nights and hiked 175 miles with his troop.”
The next township council meeting is on Wednesday, June 24, at 6 p.m.
Jimmy Luv (with proclamation) is beloved in the township community for his spirit and volunteerism.
